Complete French Mastery A0 — Absolute Beginner French Course

Who the A0 Course Is For

A0 is our introductory, pre-A1 starting stage for complete beginners. For complete beginners with little or no French who need help with pronunciation, essential vocabulary, and their first everyday expressions; the course builds foundational skills broadly comparable to Pre-CLB through CLB 1.

  • You may complete as many sections as you like per day. Actual study time depends on lesson length and the amount of practice you repeat. You may also complete the program at your own pace.
  • An internal Simple French with Hems A0 Certificate of Completion will be issued after the required course work is completed. It is not an official language-test result, government credential, academic credit or TEF/TCF/DELF certificate.

  • Each quiz requires a minimum score of 90% to pass: 90–100%: Continue to the next required section. Below 90%: Review the topic and retry the quiz. Multiple attempts: Review and retry as needed until the required threshold is reached. 90% threshold: An internal Simple French with Hems course-progression standard only. The 90% threshold is not an official CEFR, NCLC, TEF, TCF, DELF, or other standardized language-proficiency score or equivalency.
  • Course sections remain locked until the required work is successfully completed.
  • You may review the lessons and retake quizzes until you meet the required standard.

  • After completing the A0 course, the recommended next step is the complete A1 French program.
