Technical Requirements & Compatibility

Simple French with Hems includes browser-based courses, AI-assisted tools, downloadable software, audio, printable resources, immersive VR experiences and organization-delivered programs. This page explains the technical expectations that apply before you learn, install, purchase or deploy.

Compatibility requirements can change as browsers, operating systems and third-party platforms evolve. Product-specific requirements shown at checkout, on the applicable product page, in a written quotation or in an implementation agreement take priority where they are more specific.

Use this page before purchasing hardware or software.

Individual learners can use the sections below to check browser, audio, microphone, software and file requirements. Organizations should use the deployment section before purchasing dedicated devices, VR hardware or other equipment for a program. Where a requirement is not fixed publicly, confirm it with Simple French with Hems before making a hardware or software commitment.

Browser-based learning

Most online courses, quizzes, assessments and browser-based learning tools are designed to run through a current web browser rather than through separately installed desktop software.

Recommended browsers
Use a current stable version of a mainstream browser such as Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox. Older or unsupported browser versions may not render interactive learning features correctly.
Internet connection
A stable internet connection is expected for streaming lessons, account access, quizzes, AI features, interactive tools and other online content.
JavaScript
JavaScript should be enabled for interactive pages, assessment logic, practice tools and other dynamic learning functions.
Audio
Speakers or headphones are recommended for lessons and activities that include listening, pronunciation or audio playback.
Device type
Many browser-based resources can be used on phones, tablets, laptops and desktop computers. A larger screen is generally more practical for longer lessons, writing activities, detailed quizzes and downloadable materials.
Older devices may still open the website but perform differently.

Compatibility depends on the browser, operating system, memory, audio hardware and the specific tool being used. If one interactive feature does not work correctly, update the browser or test another current browser or device.

AI speaking & voice-based tools

Voice-enabled activities require additional browser and device permissions. Speech-recognition behavior can vary across operating systems, browsers, microphones, accents and recording environments.

Microphone permission
The browser must be allowed to access the device microphone when a speaking activity requires spoken input. Microphone access can normally be controlled in browser or device privacy settings.
Audio output
Working speakers or headphones are required where a tool plays prompts, pronunciation models, listening content or spoken feedback.
Browser / device support
Use a current browser on a device that exposes the audio or speech features required by the activity. Some browser and operating-system combinations may provide different speech-recognition or voice capabilities.
Recording environment
A reasonably quiet environment and a functioning microphone improve recognition quality. Background noise, room echo and poor microphone quality can reduce automated speech accuracy.
Automated feedback
AI and speech-recognition feedback is a practice aid. It can be imperfect and is not an official language assessment or a replacement for a qualified educator.
Voice and AI features may involve third-party processing.

Review the Privacy Policy for information about personal information, service providers and the handling of speech, transcription or other AI-related inputs.

Vocabuvore™ software

Vocabuvore is downloadable software rather than a standard browser-only learning page. Operating-system compatibility should therefore be checked before purchase or installation.

Platform
Current public status
What to do before purchase
macOS
Current public product
Review the current Vocabuvore product page and confirm that your Mac meets any version-specific requirements shown at the time of purchase.
Windows
Not currently listed as the public release
Do not purchase the macOS product for a Windows device. Contact us before purchasing if Windows compatibility is required for your use case.
Current supported OS versions
The exact supported macOS version requirement should be confirmed on the current Vocabuvore product page at the time of purchase. This page does not assign an operating-system version that has not been formally published for the current build.
Audio
Working device audio is required for dictation and listening activities. Speakers or headphones may be used.
Licence / device
The current public macOS licence is associated with an authorized Mac. Licence transfers between Macs are handled through Simple French with Hems rather than by sharing a licence key between devices.
Security settings
Operating-system or third-party security settings can affect installation. Review the disclosed installation instructions before changing security settings or assuming that an installation problem means the software is incompatible.

SchoolPulse VR™

SchoolPulse uses dedicated immersive hardware and is delivered differently from a browser-based course. Hardware responsibility depends on whether the engagement is facilitated by Simple French with Hems or deployed through another approved organizational arrangement.

Current facilitated headset
Meta Quest 3 Current facilitated SchoolPulse programs use Meta Quest 3 headsets.
Shared display
Depending on the session, a television or external display may be used so the facilitator or other participants can follow the immersive experience.
Facilitated delivery
Hardware, setup and operation are confirmed as part of the facilitated engagement. Organizations should not assume that they need to purchase their own headset before a session is scoped.
Licensed / organization-led deployment
Where a licensed or organization-led deployment is offered, hardware, accounts, network requirements, installation responsibilities and support expectations are confirmed during implementation planning.
Physical setup
The participation area must be appropriate for the selected seated or standing experience, free from avoidable hazards and supervised according to the applicable program arrangement.
Do not buy dedicated VR hardware solely from a general website description.

If your organization is considering its own headsets, displays, accessories or network changes, confirm the deployment model and current hardware specification with us first.

Printable & downloadable resources

Books, worksheets, study guides, answer keys and other downloadable resources may be supplied as PDF or other digital files depending on the product.

PDF viewing
Use a current PDF-capable browser or PDF reader to open PDF resources. Large illustrated files may require more local storage and memory than short worksheets.
Printing
A printer is required only when you want or need a physical copy. Printing options, page size and scaling should be checked in your PDF viewer before printing.
Storage
Make sure the device has enough storage for the file being downloaded. Some illustrated books and media resources can be substantially larger than standard worksheets.
File access
Downloaded materials remain subject to the licence and usage terms attached to the purchase. Download access does not grant permission to redistribute, resell or publicly upload the files.

Organization deployments

Schools, tutoring centres, childcare / OSC programs, senior organizations and other institutions can have different network, device, supervision and procurement requirements. Technical readiness is therefore confirmed by program.

Internet & network accessConfirm reliable internet and whether institutional filters, firewalls or guest-network rules affect required pages or services.
Browser readinessConfirm that participating devices use current browsers and that JavaScript, audio and required permissions are available.
Microphone & audioTest microphone permission, speakers or headphones before sessions that use speech, listening or pronunciation features.
Shared displayWhere a program uses group demonstration, confirm the availability of an appropriate television, monitor or projector if required.
VR hardwareConfirm the current headset and deployment model with us before purchasing organization-owned VR equipment.
Software installationFor downloadable software, confirm operating-system compatibility and whether internal IT policies permit installation.
Privacy & permissionsReview microphone, voice, AI and participant-data considerations that apply to the selected program and participant group.
Pre-launch testingTest the actual device, network and room setup before the first scheduled delivery whenever the program depends on organization-owned equipment.
Ask us before purchasing dedicated hardware.

If your organization is planning to buy headsets, tablets, laptops, microphones, displays or other equipment specifically for a Simple French with Hems program, confirm the current implementation requirements with us first.

Compatibility support

If your device, operating system, browser, institutional network or planned hardware purchase is not covered clearly above, confirm compatibility before purchasing or deploying.

Last compatibility review: August 2026

Hardware, operating systems, browsers and third-party platforms change over time. Where a current product page, checkout description, written quotation, licence document or implementation agreement contains more specific compatibility requirements, that program-specific information should be followed.
